Arthur Remillard, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Religious Studies |
|
Dr. Remillard has taught courses on American religious history, religion and sports, world religions, the history of Christianity, comparative religions, Catholic literature, bioethics, and philosophy. He is the founder and co-organizer of the North American Undergraduate Conference in Religion and Philosophy, sponsored by Saint Francis University and Westminster College. He is a managing editor for the Journal of Southern Religion and a contributor to the Religion in American History Blog.
His research interests include religion and sports, religion in the American South, U.S. Catholic history, civil religion, religion and culture, and the Spanish mission era. His manuscript, The Unfinished South, which is under review at the University of North Carolina Press, investigates the competing and complicated value systems of the American South during the post-Reconstruction era (c. 1877-1920). His next book project will focus on religion and the Mississippi River region, paying close attention to pilgrimage and sacred space themes.
